Irhedomex — Mexico Voltage and Plugs | irhedomex.com
Installed capacity, generation, consumption, coverage and line lengths for the Mexican power system.
Installed capacity reached 90,543 MW in December 2024, of which 63.1% is conventional plants and 36.9% is clean-energy facilities. By technology, thermal plants account for 75.3% of installed capacity, hydro 19%, nuclear 2.4% and other renewables 3.3%.
Generation in 2024 totalled 352,305 GWh against gross consumption of 359,807 GWh — consumption exceeded domestic generation for the year. Electricity coverage reached 98.7% of the population in 2015.
By energy share rather than capacity, fossil sources hold 65.0% and renewables 35.0%, the renewable portion made up of hydro, wind, solar and geothermal. The capacity and energy-share figures differ because plants run at different utilisation levels.

The physical network is 43,000 km (27,000 miles) of high-voltage line, 45,000 km (28,000 miles) of medium-voltage line and 600,000 km (370,000 miles) of low-voltage distribution. The low-voltage figure is the portion that actually reaches the wall socket.
Solar thermal installation exceeds 1 million square metres of panel area, against 115,000 m² of photovoltaic area recorded in 2005. The first overhead line built entirely on steel towers ran in 1903 over 101 miles at 60 kV.
All figures are national totals: capacity as of December 2024, generation and consumption for calendar year 2024, coverage as of 2015, and line lengths as published for the national grid.
